NetCorps' technology forums are a series of events scheduled for the third Thursday of every month.
The forums provide an environment in which organizations get the chance to explore a subject in depth, as well as network with one another and share news, information, help and technology tips.
March 18th : Technology Planning & Working Out a Technology Budget
(management and board members welcome!)
Your organization depends on it* you use it every day* but how do you quantify and predict the costs of your computer technology as a budget item? The phone bills are monthly and predictable* but technology? that's anyone's guess* or is it?
As with cars & plumbing, computer expenses can seem unpredictable in their timing and cost. Plus, without internal experts, how do you know what anything should cost or what really needs to be done. Small nonprofits especially feel at the mercy of computer vendors, or well intentioned volunteers to tell them how much to spend, on what and why. But - like cars and plumbing - there are ways to plan for maintenance so that your long term costs stay down.
This session will look at
- What should be in your technology budget?
- What strategies can be in place to control costs?
- How to move from reacting to planning?
- How to predict costs?
- Making cost-effective use of technology
By the end of the session, you should have a clear notion of what items need to be in your technology budget, so that your computers keep working, without being a crisis item or a huge capital project.
